Celebrate the strength of motherhood through the extraordinary life of Mary
Mary’s Veil is a moving, musical production that explores and chronicles the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Through the 23 musical numbers of this original production, the audience connects with Mary as she grows from child to wife and mother. Throughout the story, Mary is portrayed by four different women, each of whom represent her at a different stage of her life.
Mary’s Veil began in 2001 as a fundraiser for the West Sturgeon Aging in Place Foundation. Written by local talent Sandra Brenneis and performed by the Villeneuve Choir, Mary’s Veil has performed to sold-out shows 30 times since 2002. Mary’s Veil has been applauded for its theatrical merit and inspirational message of motherhood, strength, and the importance of faith in action.
Proceeds of Mary’s Veil will continue support West Country Hearth, an assisted living seniors’ complex located in Villeneuve. Almost $500,000 has been raised by this group, with their latest fundraising efforts supporting a 12-unit addition to Harmony Haven, a wing which supports seniors living with dementia.

This play – in both its subject matter and character – demands extraordinary commitment from the actors and actresses involved; difficult at times for them, due to the realness emanating forth and the force with which that reality is projected.

Cecil Blackwood was a childhood friend of Elvis Presley. They attended Sunday school together and formed their first gospel quartet called "The Songfellas" long before Elvis went on to become the King of Rock 'n Roll.
The association between the two families was lifelong. In 1958 Elvis sent a plane to North Carolina and brought the Blackwoods to sing at his mother’s funeral. James Blackwood would sing How Great Thou Art at Elvis' funeral.
Today Mark Blackwood fronts The Blackwood Quartet and continues the tradition of his family and their association with Elvis Presley. In The Gospel Side of Elvis the group performs Presley’s personal favourites including Amazing Grace, You’ll Never Walk Alone, and Crying In The Chapel.
The incredible songs… the amazing stories… the history of a legend… all come to the stage first-hand in The Gospel side of Elvis ... starring The Blackwood Quartet.
