Like a one-man orchestra, Belarus-born Alexander Sevastian’s lightening fast mastery of the accordion creates a rich, multi-layered sound that swells and stretches across a room, painting the listener’s mind with vivid imagery.

A master of his craft, this three-time International Accordion Competition winner began playing at the tender age of seven. Now Sevastian tours extensively, plays with esteemed orchestras and is an acclaimed member of the internationally recognized group Quartetto Gelato.

From classical scores to jazz-inspired sounds, Sevastian is able to take a traditional folk instrument and extract new colours and emotions that are only enhanced through The Arden’s uniquely intimate On Stage Series.

From the delicate footsteps and subtle expressions of traditional Indian dance comes an evolution in the form of Canada’s own Nova Bhattacharya. Classically trained in Bharatanatyam and skilled in contemporary dance, Bhattacharya dares to bring East and West together in a way that’s purely her own. Four dance pieces come together with the bell- like timbre of Ed Hanley’s tabla in Sleight of Hand, featuring Peggy Baker’s acclaimed Sanctum and three works created in collaboration with Hanley: Unspoken, Related Fragments Remix and their signature piece Maskura.

With The Arden’s intimate On Stage Series, you don’t have to be well-versed in the intricacies of Indian dance to be captivated by this modern-day goddess. When Nova Bhattacharya dances, you’ll feel it.

“Equal parts siren and technical dynamo, the diminutive performer with the burning eyes shows you the soul behind the dance.” –The Globe & Mail
